CHARITY SPONSERSHIP: THE CORNERMEN
Croyde Medical is pleased to announce that we are now proud sponsors of The Cornermen, a local men's suicide prevention charity.
Who Are The Cornermen?
The Cornermen is a local men's suicide prevention charity based in Didcot, founded by Steve James and John Houston.
Steve has over 30 years of experience as a support worker, with a plethora of training in suicide prevention, dealing with trauma, safeguarding and more. He is also a member of the South Moreton Boxing Club - which John founded back in 2006.
The two decided to start The Cornermen together in 2022, combining Steve’s expertise with the club’s facilities in response to the acute need in the local area for men's mental health support.
What Do They Do?
The Cornermen provides free support for men experiencing mental health challenges, particularly those struggling with suicidal thoughts. Through sessions at their boxing gym, individuals are offered a safe, non-judgemental space where they can spend time in whatever way feels most comfortable to them – whether that's working on a punch bag or simply sitting down for a chat over a cuppa.
The focus is on providing genuine support without pressure, giving people someone to talk to when they need it most. To ensure the service is accessible to everyone, they also offer transport assistance, collecting individuals from home or town and bringing them to the club if they are unable to arrange their own travel.
